Description

Je ne parlerais pas de l’installation d’OpenBSD en soit. Je fais fonctionner ce portable sous OpenBSD depuis mes débuts avec la 5.9 !

Cet Alienware AW13 est la première génération.

Ce qui fonctionne

  • Intel Audio
  • Intel CPU - l’Hyper-Threading est désactivé par défaut par le système ;  la virtualisation fonctionne (support VMX/EPT) !
  • Intel GPU
  • La carte réseau “Attansic Technology E2200” AR8035 10/100/1000 PHY,  rev. 9 : firmware  alc  
    • depuis OpenBSD 6.6
  • le “touchpad” - gestion du pointeur : OK ; pas les “boutons”.
  • USB EHCI, XHCI (2.x et 3)
  • Webcam - depuis OpenBSD 6.4

Modifications systèmes nécessaires

Certaines modifications systèmes sont nécessaires.

Fichier /etc/sysctl.conf

Sous OpenBSD 6.4 & 6.5, il y a un problème avec l’horloge matérielle, ce qui a pour conséquence que la saisie de caractères se retrouve démultiplier en session X.

Pour le régler, il faut ajouter au fichier /etc/sysctl.conf : kern.timecounter.hardware=acpihpet0

Fichier /etc/wsconsctl.conf

display.vblank=on
mouse.tp.tapping=1
  • La première option améliore l’affichage vblank.
  • La deuxième améliore la saisie des boutons de souris.

Fichier /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Il y a un soucis de “tearing”, problème d’accélération graphique avec le GPU Intel, c-à-d des saccades.

Il est donc nécessaire de créer le fichier /etc/X11/xorg.conf et de le remplir ainsi :

  • C’est l’option TearFree qui règle le problème.
  • L’option HotPlug prend en charge les périphériques qui se montent à  chaud…

Ce qui ne fonctionne pas

  • Le Bluetooth - le support a été supprimé dans OpenBSD pour des raisons  de sécurité depuis longtemps
  • La puce Wifi, une “Atheros” : vendor “Atheros”, unknown product 0x003e  (class network subclass miscellaneous, rev 0x20)
  • Nvidia GPU, technologie Optimus - ne sera jamais pris en charge, tant  que ladite société ne libérera pas les sources.
